I was taught that the names aren't absolutely rigid because of alternate 
fingerings; but in general: 
 
Chalumeau = lowest note through A (2nd space on staff) 
 
Throat = open G through A (2nd space on staff) 
 
[thus chalumeau and throat overlap a bit] 
 
[what to do with Bb on the staff because of alternate fingerings and 
because the 'lower' fingering uses the register key?] 
 
Clarion = B-natural (3rd line on staff) up to and including C (two lines 
above staff) 
 
Altissimo = above clarion, except C# can be either clarion or altissimo 
depending on the fingering. 
 
....and you hear the words "alto" vs. "altissimo" in many conversations.
