A CD liner (Dragon's Tongue, Robert Spring) describes JeanJean as
having been a soloist with "the professional band of the French Guard
Republicaine" as well as with the Monte Carlo orchestra. I have no
idea whether this band had special prestige or not.
The CD liner also says that JeanJean was "the composer of
ineluctable etudes for cringing clarinetists" (if you need your
dictionary for this one.... you aren't alone, I did as well!) and also
variations on Carnival of Venice.

That's not much information, really.... sorry.
