In my daughter's middle school, there are 78 in the 7th grade band and 71 in
the 8th grade band. I think there is also a 6th grade program but they were
not featured at the most recent concert I went to. I don't know the exact
population of the middle school but I think it is around 600 or so. The high
school has a band as well as a wind ensemble; don't know the number of
members there, but both were given coverage in the local paper for doing
well at a recent competition.

Hope this helps - don't know exactly what you were looking for in terms of
data.

We are facing a scaled down version of this in my school district
except that the local board is thinking of cutting only instrumental
music.
This is why I am, within the limits of my resources, trying to
accumulate some input about the "standard of living" in school districts
in other parts of the country.

Thank you,
Bill
