Subject: [kl] Band
Its not required at our middle school Just showing up gets you a
passing grade), but at the hich school level they must have certain credits
in the arts for graduation. BUT, they can get this by merely being a band
manager (equipment mover and general gopher) and not play a note.
As part of a budget dilemma that our local school district faces
right now, and in which I am active in a minor way, I'd like to ask:
Is it unusual for a junior high school ('middle school' in some
areas) to require band or orchestra in order to receive a diploma? My
question is not related to my previous posts about one of my
grandchildren who was required to play in band. But given our local
budget dilemma, I would like to hear if such a requirement is highly
unusual?
Thank you,
Bill
