The following words are spoken by Karl Leister for many years the
principal of the Berlin Phil.
"Sometimes when the reed is too hard, I place a little piece of paper
beneath the heel of the reed. That makes the tip come closer to the tip
of the mouthpiece and it's easier to play.
To find your reeds you have to wet them and then play them for 10
minutes, one after the other.
Do not play a reed for 5 hours or else you'll kill it!
Some reeds work very well. Use others for practice. Do not practice on
a very good reed.
Save it for the concert!
