Actually, it was Bill W. who posted that; but I can give you a real
life example because my daughter has hypersensitive hearing. On one
occasion, we went to see STOMP! and I had to leave early with her and I
had to buy a second ticket on another night in order to see the full
show. Percussion especially affects her. I had a similar incident
once when I took her to a pistol range.

But here's my example: there is a certain acoustical pattern
which my daughter does not hear despite her hypersensitve hearing. You
can watch her, and it's as though the sound doesn't exist for her even
though everyone else in the room can hear it plainly. I'm quite sure
that, somehow, she is either firing inhibitory neurons or turning off
excitatory neurons in order to protect herself from this particuar
pattern.

The pattern is: "Clean up your room."

Cheers,
Bill
