I had a Signature for two months (before it cracked in about 8 places). The
key was constantly getting in my way and it got to the point where I simply
relearned my cross-fingerings the opposite way because I could never hit the
left hand F#/C# in the right place. It never even occurured to me to remove
the key, foolish one that I was. Thank goodness I got to send it back for a
refund (it wasn't a great horn anyway). I have a friend, though, who has a
Signature, and the key doesn't seem to get in the way nearly as much on hers
as it did on mine. The horn itself plays much more nicely too; whether
Selmer got their act together or I just improved as a player, I don't know,
but the keywork sure felt better.
On a related note, I also played on my teacher's R13 Prestige A clarinet
last year, with the extra key, and ti was to ofar away from the other keys
to be of much use to me. I have pretty small hands, though, and it was an
older model. I believe this keywork has changed as well. Anyway, that's my 2
cents.
