Ob. note:
I am not speaking for the ICA. I do host the Clarinetfest & ICA sites, and I'm webmaster of both & get paid for creating/updating those sites. These are my opinions only.

Looking at the schedule, there's an awful lot of "non-recording" clarinet players there. There really aren't that many "big-name" performers on the roster, and I get many questions on why there's not _more_ big names, especially from Europe, on the roster (cost is a major factor - if the artists aren't being sponsored then Clarinetfest would have to pay a significant amount of money per artist to bring them in!).

The ICA provides "seed money" to the festival organizers; after that it's up to the organizers to arrange for the performances. The ICA is always looking for festival organizers - the amount of work is daunting! Contact president@-----.

Is there "politics" involved? Sure - the organizers, being human, will most probably invite their friends to perform. Having the Clarinetfest in a different location every year I think helps even this out - we get to see a range of people after a few years. Are there some performers who are ICA/Clarinetfest "friendly"? I surely think so - I see some of the same big names year after year.

I don't think that the festival could stand being much longer without losing money; as it is there's a lot of dropouts by Saturday, and by Sunday the place is pretty empty.
