I think there is a LOT of separation of major and minor institutions. A
teacher from one of the big music schools, i.e. Eastman or Juiliard, woul=
d be
more likely to garnish a place performing than would one from a community=

college, or a college which is less universally known as a major player i=
n
music, regrdless of the skill of the community college performer. =

Although the teachers at the more prestigious schools do have clout, I th=
ink
it diminishes the conference without a large crosssection of players (who=
are
good players, of course.) This is the International Clarinet Association,=
not
the association of people lucky enough to get a great playing or teaching=
job
through the cattle call of all the other outstanding performers. Maybe th=
is
conference should be a whole week, and at least 50% of the performers be =
from
non-world-reknown players. =

How about %50 of the performers being big name, i.e. Morales, Combs, Meye=
r,
Leister, Niedich, Shifrin, etc... and the other %50 being by lottery? Tha=
t
would alleviate the idea of putting people on the roster because of their=

school is "preferred". Also, have people who are picked to play on a
conference by lottery to *NOT* be able to play again at Clarinetfest for =
3
years, thus insuring a rotation. =

Any thoughts?
