I had a glassman/oboist friend cut a 12"x18" piece of 1/2" plate galss (a
heavy sucker!). This sits on my desk as a repository for newly opened boxes
of reeds.... actually a kind of shrine to the Reed Gods. I bless the
occupants of the glass shrine with Holy Water (or vodka, gin, usw) on a
regular basis, whilst performing the Arundo Donax Ritual Dance.

Enough of that............ leaving the reeds face down on glass really
allows them to dry properly without warpage after their daily work-out. I
rotate the new reeds from top to bottom. Putting 'em back in the stupid box
is not my idea of a good time. Besides, some ree boxes encourage mould
(yech!) More time to practice, or drink the Holy Water. Go down to your
local glass shop and enquire about a large scrap of plate glass. Ask them
to round off the corners and edges for you safety.
