I've only been to one clarinetfest, the one in Lubbock, and I enjoyed it
thoroughly. I was so impressed by the depth of playing skill since the days
35-40 years ago when I played a lot. Personally, I have no objection to
hearing players of great renown. The chance to observe and listen to the
superstars of the instrument is not to be missed. And it is also great fun
to see the up and coming younger players as well.

I am sure there are lots of wonderful players out there who don't record a
lot or teach at the most famous conservatories. I agree that it would be
nice to have an opportunity to hear some of them as well, especially if they
bring something unique and inspiring to the instrument and the music. How
to choose I'm sure is a difficult task. From my perspective, I have no
complaints so far.
