Hi,

I played the Reed II book last fall. It was split 50/50 sax/clar with some
flute also. The Reed I book had a lot of flute in addition to clar/sax, in
that order. We had a flute player play the flute parts from Reeds I & II
and clar/sax players play the rest. The other reed books are pretty much as
written (some of each instrument - you need doublers).

As far as to whether you need a jazz background, well if you don't
understand how to play in the "jazz style", the show won't come off as
intended. I didn't feel that the music was difficult, but there were a lot
of typos, so beware. Hope this helps.
