This could also be a matter of dryness. A reed that's been sitting unused
for 25 years is very dry. I often find that reeds I haven't used for several
weeks feel unresponsive and sound thin and brittle even after a reasonable
wetting time. They need more hydration to come back to life. After some
extra wetting or wetting them over a couple of short playing sessions, they
come around.
