This is not related to the number of hours a reed is playable but to reed
longevity in a different sense. About two years ago I resumed playing after
a hiatus of over 25 years. In my buffet case was a reed case with four
reeds in it. I moistened a reed, put in on the horn and ....it sounded
terrible. But as I got my embouchure back I revisited these old reeds and
oddly enough they sounded just fine. I was quite surprised.
