I remember someone who played with us had a reed over 10 years old when we
started the band. He then played with us for about 3 years with the same
reed. Conservatively he blew through that reed 1 hour per week for 3 years
that I witnessed. He only owned that one reed, and he sounded pretty darn
good. Although we couldn't play certain songs because one of his springs was
broken and he insisted on taping that key shut rather than getting it fixed.
Takes all kinds I guess.
