Another Revelli story:
I was the organizer for the All-State Concert Band in Texas one year.
Revelli had done several clinics at the TMEA convention. One of his clinics
was scheduled to end about 20 minutes before a rehearsal of the All-State
Concert Band. We needed to set up the room for the rehearsal, but about 100
people were gathered around talking to Revelli, getting autographs, etc. My
assistant director said "James, you are going to have to ask Revelli to leave
so we can set up. Some of the kids are already getting here." I went over
to Revelli, shook his hand and said "Dr. Reveli, I am sorry to have do this
but we are going to have a band rehearsal in here shortly so you and everyone
else will need to leave so we can set up." Everyone got very quiet. Revelli
said "You are telling me to leave?" Everyone was silent. I explained again
that we were trying to get ready for a rehearsal and we needed to clear the
room so we could set up. The entire room was absolutely still as everyone
could not believe I was asking Revelli to leave. Revelli immediately spoke
up in a loud voice and said to everyone "You heard him. They are getting
ready for a band rehearsal and we are in the way. Everyone needs to get out
of here now! Go" The room cleared in about 30 seconds.
