Well, if you want something that is _*REALLY REALLY*_ stiff, you
can buy a few tools and some cane tube, and then the sky is the limit!
My catalog says that Lurie stops at 5, and Vandoren V12 is the only
reed that goes to "5+". Notice that Vandoren doesn't call this reed
"5-1/2". Presumably a number above 5 is off the scale and doesn't have
a precise meaning, except "really stiff."

Vandoren V12 is physically (dimensionally) thicker than most reeds,
but V12 is also a slight bit softer than the normal Vandorens. I used
to play V12 until several boxes in a row didn't work for me. This may
have been a fluke, however.
