Or for that matter, get the score and a recording of Bach's "Art of Fugue",
where many of these contrapuntal techniques are exhibited in graceful musical
contexts! Donald Francis Tovey's little book, "A companion to the Art of
Fugue", has some very good, accessible analyses.
