Josh -

The story is about Hans Moennig and was told to me by a couple of people who
had the same experience. If you asked him about oiling the bore, he would
fish a block of grenadilla wood out of a bucket of oil, where it had been
soaking for the last 30 years. He would wipe the oil off the surface, hand
the block to you along with a sharp knife and tell you to cut off the
thinnest possible shaving. Invariably, the wood was completely dry and free
of oil even a hairsbreadth below the surface.

Perhaps Alvin Swiney can confirm or deny the story, or give an eyewitness
account.
