No, it is not a nerves thing.
You are losing air because you have problems leaking air throught your
palate(sp?).
There are an article published on old issues of "The Clarinet" magazine
speaking about that problem and how to fix it. Try to find it out. Even find
it could be a good idea to go to a medical doctor(those that take care of
our troat) to listen what can he tells you.
