I'm not posting this for any particular reason. It's just a
thought that has popped into my head while I am practicing today.

When I was in the dorm at ClarinetFest last year, and also whenever
I hear someone come into the music store and do warm-ups, or during
warm-ups in a pit, people always seem to start in the clarion register.
I've never focused m attention on this, but I can't remember anyone
starting their warm-up (long tone or otherwise) in the bottom register.
It's as if the clarion register is a special mark of distinction and is
the 'supreme' place for a clarinetist to be.

I don't agree with this myself, and I always start with low E (on
my Bb). To my ear, it's the low notes where bad tone really jumps out
at you --- not that a bad tone is desirable anywhere, of course.
