Indeed. To us discerning clarinetists, oversights like these are well
nigh unforgivable. Your punishment: buy 20 boxes of Vandoren
hand-select, soak them all in a bowl of water for ten minutes, and rub
down each one in succession with the tip of your index finger until
you've closed the pores of all 200 reeds. Re-box them and ship them all
to ME, because I'm going through reed hell, and damned if I have time to
mess with it right now!

Okay, but as part of my punishment, shouldn't I play each of them
for an hour --- to be sure that each one I send to you is of good
quality?

..... allow me to give you a serious reply, Neil. I went through
a similar series of boxes a number of months ago (two different orders)
that didn't work for me, and I wondered whether it was me or the reeds.
So I switched brands and my problems disappeared. I still have a
remnant box of the old brand, and I tried one of them a few weeks ago.
My personal verdict remains unchanged. I am staying with the new
brand.

Perhaps you should try the same experiment? People change over
time, just as reeds do.
