that you eventually tune them out. The screaming, the yelling, the batons
thrown at random (unless they happen to hit you), the dreadful arrangements
(most of what we played in our case), you name it. And that was only on the
podium. There was more, that I won't even begin to go into here, involving
the Navy end of it. You either ignored it or had a nervous breakdown. I
had a hard time ignoring it...

As to performances, the band simply played however they figured out it was
supposed to sound based on listening to whatever soundtracks were out at the
moment. We didn't care (strangely enough, neither did the conductors) as
long as the audience said we were wonderful.
And then, rehearsals were the same old thing, over and over and over...
I think they basically bring their personal baggage to rehearsal and take it
out on other people. And that is my personal opinion, and it has nothing to
do with music, I realize. However, I simply have seen too many of them.
