Mr. Revelli was the conductor of the Georgia All-State Band in 1972. It
was a scary weekend! He didn't like anything we did, he thought we were
unfeeling, unthinking, immature kids--that's what he said. We were
playing difficult pieces--one was Husa's Music for Prague--and we were
doing the best we could. Lots of kids got shot down to the end of their
section by him. Fortunately, he never spoke to me or asked me to play
anything.
It was the only All-State or Honor Band that was unpleasant. I don't
even listen to the recording, but maybe we ended up sounding very good.
