Oh the things that go on when one is not paying attention. Dave Ross of
UT El Paso has brought to my attention a symposium entitled "The
Clarinet Around 1800" to be held on May 8 and sponsored by both the
Musikhochschule in Basel and the Schola Cantorum Basilensis. The
conference will be held in two languages, German and English, and guests
are heartily welcomed. If you are interested in going contact

Among the distinguished presenters are Thomas Gebhard, Hans-Rudolf
Stalder, François Benda, Eric Hoeprich, Jochen Seggelke, Pierre-André
Taillard, our David Ross (who speaks on "Playing Eighteenth-Century
Music: Modern Editions or Early Prints?", René Hagmann, and Charles
Neidich. A concert being held on May 7, will include a ton of clarinet
music played by Taillard.

Stalder will speak on "The Basset Horn and its Literature around 1800,"
Benda's topic is "Interpretation of the 'vorschlag' in K. 622",
Hoeprich's is "New Discoveries about Mozart's ... K. 622," etc. etc.

Just to make it perfectly clear, the May 7 and 8 to which I am referring
is in about two weeks, NOT May of 2002.

Why did I find out about this so later? It's my fault. I've been
asleep.
