Gee, I'm flattered you guys read these things. To correct my first
dissertation about Daverne, Vache', Shaw, and Goodman, counting from under
the staff as one, the notes would be C4, D4, F4 and G4.

Many years ago, Dick Nash took his young son, Teddy, to Benny's apartment in
New York. Teddy was doing very well on sax and clarinet and was thrilled to
be able to meet the great man. While there, Benny let Teddy play his
clarinet, using Goodman's mouthpiece and reed. Teddy diddled around with it
for a while and then, looking at the mouthpiece quizzically, said, "Gosh, Mr.
Goodman, you sure use a soft reed!

Teddy, incidentally, is now one of the few white men in the Lincoln Center
Jazz Orchestra under Wynton Marsalis. He's the slim guy playing alto sax,
soprano, clarinet and flute.
