For the reference of anyone else looking for a C clarinet, I've been told
third-hand that Leblanc France will not be making more 45C instruments
(which have nickel-plated keywork) anytime soon, as they apparently have in
stock a surplus of some model of clarinet in C with silver-plated keywork.

I've been looking for a C clarinet for about 6 months now (and ended up
buying a Noblet 45C from Albert Alphin yesterday). Rayburn had two Amati C
clarinets, both of which I tried. One had much weaker throat tones than the
other, and the other was passable but seemed of less-than-top-notch
workmanship. I like the 45C much more than the Amati, though I'm still
learning to not occasionally bump its sliver and trill keys when playing
fast passages. (Teaching the fingers a new scale on which to operate.)
In the defense of Amati, my (Winston-relabeled) Amati bass clarinet to low C
is a lovely instrument, and plays fairly well. I dunno, maybe I got lucky.
