For me, using one or the other Bb fingering can depend on whether
you are slurring or tonguing. The results (for me) are different
depending on whether the reed is already in motion. Maybe that's a
symptom of less than perfect breath support? (I'm not talking about
'honking' while tonguing, I'm talking about the note's tone when it's on
pitch and desired loudness.)
