Joe, with respect to Marcellus' recording of K. 622 with Szell, be aware
that we had a lengthy discussion of that matter at least a year ago,
maybe more, and there was NOT the unanimity of opinion that you opine.
I, for one, loved his playing, but not his performance of that work,
finding it stodgy, fussy, and unimaginative. I suspect that some of
that was Szell's fault because the tempi were annoyingly slow, but my
disappointment was palpable. I wanted so much for it to be a definitive
performance and, in my eyes, it failed by major degrees.
