David,

What do you mean, the "real" fingering for throat Bb is the A key plus
Bb/register key. The side or trill Bb is also a "real" fingering. Any fingering
you can find and use is a "real" fingering.

The side Bb might be "INFERIOR" on your clarinet, but most people find it
acoustically superior. I suggest you have your clarinet looked at by a good
repairman.

There's no secret about when one should and shouldn't use the side or trill Bb. I
use it a lot, but not all the time. I use it when I can and it is not a
"technical hang-up." To the contrary, I find the side Bb well worth the trouble,
but as I'm suggesting, it is no trouble at all for me to use it because I'm use
to it.

ONLY WHEN ONE IS EQUALLY FLUENT WITH ALL FINGERING CHOICES WILL ONE BE OBJECTIVE
IN CHOOSING THE BEST POSSIBLE FINGERINGS FOR BOTH FINGERING AND TECHNICAL
CONSIDERATIONS AND ALSO FOR TONE QUALITY AND TUNING REASONS.
