Hi Eric

Not transposing is always the easier thing. I've never met a clarinettist who *enjoyed* transposing.

I purchased a C Clarinet (Buffet, 1923) at an estate sale and it turned out to be a magnificent instrument, tonally and response-wise. These days, I welcome C parts because it's another chance to play it.

(Heaven is something like Mozart's "COSI" which calls for all three, Bb, A, and C. Playing the C throws the flute/oboe/bassoon/clarinet pitch into an interesting space -- but nothing that good players can't adjust to with minimal effort.

In general: having the part in Bb would never stop somebody from playing it. Putting it in C might. Anybody who wanted to play a Bb part in C (!) or vice versa, could do so. Nothing stopping them.

I say, keep it simple. Stick to Bb. Add a note, original part in C, play on C and transpose if you must...

cheers
jdg
