I suppose you will find many performance practices that exist today that
receive no written confirmation - and could probably conclude many
interesting things. However, you might also find no major controversy on
if it should be or has ever been done that way in the past - as we continue
to have in terms of vibrato. Therefore - I submit that the analogy which
Dan graciously offers to demonstrate his point regarding vibrato vs.
accents on notes should, as one of my favorite people has posted in the
past, "win a prize for its irrelevancy."
