Given four 8th notes to each 2/4 measure, the accent is on 2 and 4 which
is exactly where you would not expect it to be. And, strangely, the
place of those accents do not alter the fundament character of a march
with accents on 1 and 3.

It's a wonderful tradition and you will find nothing written about it
except for either word of mouth or, as you so eloquently stated, "word
of pixel."
