The best bass mouthpieces i've ever played have been Kaspars. But since
most people (including myself) don't have $700+ to spend on a bass clarinet
mouthpiece, the best copies i've been able to find are from Rick Sayre
(Kaspar's student, and inheritor of his tools). And in my opnion, his
mouthpieces are the best on the market.

He makes two models. One's his custom (K-13)model made from his own blank.
And the other is a refaced Selmer C* model. His Selmer model sounds just
like a Selmer mouthpiece. Have never been very impressed with them. His
custom model, however is wonderful. I've played three of them that a friend
had and wanted all three of them.

However, i was at Rick's shop a few weeks ago while in Chicago for Spring
Break and asked to try some of his custom models but he claimed that they
and the refaced Selmers were the same blank and he just alters the insides
of the Selmers. But after playing the Selmers (i'd played some before then
too) i was convinced that he must have quite using the custom blanks. They
sounded like Selmers... since that's what they were.... :-/

I've played some of Clark Fobes' bass mouthpieces but it's been a while... i
like them too, but just not as much as Rick Sayre's. THey were a bit too
bright for my taste. But not as bright and reedy as Bay's.

hi all,
could anyone suggest a bass clarinet mouthpiece, something that would suit
most people. i'm sposed to play bass clarinet for a few upcoming concerts
but the mouthpiece that comes with the bass is awful. I dont know if this
helps but i currently use a selmer C85 120 for my Bb.
Thanks.
Dave
