Jaw vibrato seems to be generally preferred for single reeds. Double reed
vibrato is more of a diaphragm thing, and flute pretty much exclusively
so. Also, I think of jaw vibrato not as a jaw-clenching, but more of a
jaw-relaxing and re-tightening to the original position. It can even be
seen as a good intonation exercise, as you repeatedly hit the pitch,
deliberately drop under it, and then re-acquire it.
