All this chatter about meta-music, apart from Bill Wright's
own comments, seems to be missing the mark, logically speaking.
Doesn't meta-"anything" pertain to expressing or acting on some-
thing in reference to itself? Or do I misunderstand the meaning
of the prefix? For example, Tony Pay and I have gotten into some
interesting (albeit volatile and at times outright disruptive)
exchanges as a result of what Tony called my meta-posts, i.e.,
me posting commentary about about the manner in which Tony
posts, rather than addressing the content of the posts them-
selves. I'm doing it again right here, in fact, but in refer-
ence to what's been said thus far about meta-music.

If I understand what Bill is saying, without actually entering
the discussion itself, when he uses the term "meta-music", he's
referring to the use of music itself as a means for communicat-
ing or making a statement about music in general. Thus far,
everybody seems to think that using English language terms which
pertain to music qualifies as meta-music. This isn't quite right,
is it? If we were to engage in the application of meta-music,
we would have to either be in each others' presence and attempt
to communicate our thoughts on music in general by playing our
instruments, using the actual sound to communicate our thoughts,
or we would have to send each other printed music that was intend-
ed, without any interpretation via spoken or written language, to
say something about music as a concept/discipline/art form, what-
ever.

Is this what you have in mind Bill?
