I had the pleasure of working with Richard Stoltzman 2 summers (?) ago. He
came to solo with the orchestra and big band (and his son Peter who is a
very fine jazz piano player) at the Henry Mancini Institute where I am head
of sound. I have nothing bad to say about him... I actually learned a new
way to deal with sound reinforcement of a clarinet from him.

When he performs, he walks around the stage. He especially likes to go to
the pianist and trade licks with him... We ended up using a wireless
laverlier microphone and clipped it to his tie. The pickup was incredible
(of course his sound was incredible to start out). I have two live
recordings of him playing jazz... I prefer a bit more traditional jazz to
what he played (seemed a bit "pop-ish"), but the performance was first rate.
