No, it wasn't you who started something. It wasn't your comment I called
vitriolic, but those kinds of comments by anyone. Your post was simply the last
straw (for me). It was no worse or better than anyone else's who slammed
Jonathan's concert notice. The truth is I am apalled and now quite disgusted by
the (lack of ) positive character displayed by some list members. Someone on our
list (I forget who) has a wonderful tagline that I have taken to heart: "A man
never reveals his own character so clearly as when he discusses another's". We
might all want to think about that a bit more.

Next, the list may have been different at one time (as you state) but that
doesn't mean it was the 'be-all-and-end-all'. Things change, and sometimes for
the better. Also, if your main complaint (or anyone else's) was that this was an
advertisement, (and I don't agree BTW), why not simply and politely ask Jonathan
to put a k in front of his message instead of all these detailed criticisms of a
simple notice? Because again, below, you apologize and then continue to nitpick
- IMHO. My understanding of list members' agreement of using the k was to
advertise actual products like mouthpieces, books, barrels, etc.

I am delighted to have someone of Jonathan's calibre be a part of out list and
one willing to contribute to it. Playing devil's advocate here - does criticism
of his concert notice stem from the fact that he is commercially more successful
than some others? Why hasn't there been criticism of other list members who
posted concert notices - maybe because they somehow didn't threaten our self
esteem? Or do we place Jonathan in a different category because he's a
commercial success. Are we okay with concert notices until the posters begin
making money at it? Do we then begin to turn on them? This devil's advocate
comment is geared to all of us, who perhaps need more introspection time.
