Hear, hear!
Surely, this list is a communication tool about what is available for
clarinetists, whether it is a cool new accessory, an awesome mouthpiece,
an upcoming concert or seminar, or a recording, as well as a place to
discuss theory, technique, etc.

Do I mind it if the person who actually created the item or works for
the company that created it is the one who announces a new item? Heck,
no! It probably means I heard about it a bit sooner than I might have
otherwise.

No, I don't want this list to turn into a giant advertisement, but
sheesh, an announcement of something that is directly related to
clarinet is certainly as valuable to me as some of the threads that have
taken place on this list. And infinitely more valuable than a message
which complains about said announcement!

<<<. . . This was nothing more than an advertisement to the list to sell
recordings, under the guise of an otherwise legitimate concert
announcement.>>>

My favorite column in "The Clarinet" each quarter is the recital/concert
list, showing what people have played when. The internet allows most
folks to find out ahead of time. I think it's just jiggy that Mr.
Cohler lets us know about his concert.

If it's just a ruse to sell records, well, bully for Mr. Cohler. I'll
probably buy one.

<<<You say "I did instruct my record company, Ongaku Records, to post
the announcement to the list." C'mon, now--I do believe that this
"recording company" is headquartered at your home address, is it not?>>>

How very clever! If true, very grin-inducing. (What's an Ongaku?)

Mr. Cohler's post differed from most only in the level of enthusiasm.
>>From the recordings I've heard of him, he plays pretty
enthusiastically,
too. God forbid anyone ever have any fun doing this.

Perhaps folks would be even more offended if Mr. Cohler (or Mr. Garrett,
or Mr. Pay, or whomever) just came out and said "I have a new record . .
. please check it out." Not me. One of the fundamental purposes of
this list, I think, is to let folks in the hinterlands (like Seattle)
know that there is stuff available. I've bought a bunch of great
recordings over the last few years that I never would have heard of but
for this list or one of the others I subscribe to.

So -- Walt Grabner's got a new mouthpiece? Please let me know. Roger
Garrett, too? Ditto. Buffet has a spiffy new horn? Thanks, Mr. Kloc,
for letting me know. The new edition of Mozart's No. 268-1/2 is (or
isn't) a fraud? Dan Leeson will let us know whether it's worth buying.

Heck, that's why I subscribe! Keep it coming. Please.
