Hmmm...not to mention his [Cohler's] many accomplishments of shameless

Then again, music is a business, and the "shameless self-promotion"
applies to just about every ad I see in the newspaper - chamber music
groups, opera, symphonies, recordings, concerts, etc. Maybe it's the use
of Klarinet that's bothering you?
Exactly, Mark. I got into trouble when I first joined this list
because I protested about advertising. Basically, most people on the
list told me that I was wrong. They were interested in upcoming
events, products that are available, and so forth.
It seems to me (still seems to me) that there is a "line in the
sand" that should not be crossed. Announcements that "so-and-so will
perform" or "we sell such-and-such" seem OK to me; but when the
'announcement' includes a sales pitch, then it's an abuse of this list
(IMO).
The same applies to repeated announcements of the same thing.
Once every six months seems acceptable to me and useful, but more often
than that seems like an abuse to me. If you want to give a sales pitch
or many repetitions, then become a Sneezy sponsor and put up your web
page.
IMO and YMMV
