Yes I believe you heard the announcement correctly. I have the CD. He is
playing two concertos by Pleyel and The Danzi Sinfonia Concertante with
Jean-Pierre Rampal on the recording. This CD is one of my favorites. The
program notes mention that these concertos were not originally for clarinet.
The one in Bb flat major is believed to be an arrangement of a cello
concerto. However, it has been arranged for other instruments including the
piano. One editor believes that the piece was written for Joseph Beer or
Franz Tausch. The other in C major was written for flute, clarinet or cello,
at least the early editions of the work say that. However, it is believed
that it was originally written for clarinet. Well regardless of what
instrument they were written for I love these concertos especially the one
in Bb major. Meyer makes the technical difficulty in these works seem
effortless. As for the clarinet that Meyer is playing on, I believe it is
anything but a period instrument. The cover has him holding a buffet.
Besides I don't think it sounds like a period instrument. This a recording
worth buying in my opinion.
