A while back Dan Leeson reported that there was a film called "The
Enigma of K621b" by Gilles Thomé. I'm having a copy of this wonderful
film made for myself at the moment but the tone is rather poor quality.

Today, my colleage Alain, who is befriended with Gilles Thomé, lent me a
double CD entitled "Une Soiree chez les Jacquin" featuring Thomé on
clarinette and basset horn. I'm letting it flow over me at this very
moment. Soon I will also be able to listen to it more concentratedly.
All the music from the film is on it - and more! And of course in CD
quality instead of VHS. There is also a booklet of over 70 pages, half
in French, half English. Very informative with sections contributed by
Thomé, René Terrasson, HC Robbins Landon (who was in the film), Nicholas
Shackleton (who is on this list - did you know about your article being
here Nick?), Robert Sebesta and Christopher Clarke.

On first hearing, it's beautiful music very nicely done. Although one
does hear the technical imperfections of the old clarinets (intonation,
keywork), it doesn't disturb.

On the lighter side, on p. 38 there is a photo of Thomé wearing nothing
but a basset horn in G. (Old version of G-string?)

The booklet and the cover is beautifully done but not very informative
with drawings by Anne Peultier. The company is Zig-Zag Territoires. The
no. is ZZT 990701 (1/2)
