A bit of humor for old movie ("Phantom of the Opera" 1943 version) and
Nelson Eddy fans -
Who would want to play anything by Pleyel? After all, he tried to steal
poor Claude Raines' Symphony and then threw acid in his face. Claude Raines
probably also wrote the Clarinet Concerto, truth be known.
I admit it, I have a weird sense of humor.

Sick as a dog on a Sunday night, desperately trying to catch up on a
backlog of c-r-a-p at work. Having the office to my-self, I'm listening to
a classical music station broadcasting out of Hamburg, Germany (Klassik
Radio, it's called). Couldn't figure out for the entire performance who the
artist was that I just heard, which was surprising b/c I can usually
identify players very quickly. Sounded like Dieter Kloecker's tone, but
much more musical than I've ever heard Dieter play. I never would have
guessed...Paul Meyer, nor that it was a concerto by Pleyel. Did I
understand the announcer cor-rectly? Anybody ever heard or performed the
Pleyel? What a delightful concerto. And I wonder what Meyer was playing on
when he performed it ~ surely not an RC Prestige. Maybe even a period
instrument? I'm curious.
