I'm sorry to hear that you are receiving the same treatment we have been
subjected to here in Jacksonville. After almost thirty years, our local NPR
affiliate WJCT-FM went to the daytime talk/night-time canned national feed
from NPR or Minnesota Public Radio format about 12 - 18 months ago. I don't
know what this has meant for the station's bottom line - our only hope is
that after a couple of years the bottom line doesn't look good enough and
they change the format back. They've gotten my last membership dollar, for
sure.

I suspect that no matter what happens, the local content (JSO concerts,
music from JU/UNF, other local groups) is gone for good. From a distance it
appears that NPR on a national basis is being much more rigorous in
requiring stations to follow a programming focus that will return revenue to
the mother ship rather than letting local programming/content form a
significant portion of the content... Try the links on Mike's Radio World
for internet links to many wonderful stations that are providing the kind of
programming we like - too many to name here... If you are fortunate enough
to have broadband connections or faster, the sound is getting quite
acceptable in many places. I will, for the benefit of the list, withhold
the rant about letting the free market provide what we need if the FCC
wasn't in the pocket of (strangled silence)...

Sadly,

Rezzie Flanders
