I presume you are using the older style Buffet basset horn; i.e., the
one with a narrow bore. If that is the case, I suggest that you use a
reed AT LEAST one strength lighter than one that you would use on a
clarinet. That was my experience, at least.

I played a #2 reed on basset horn and a #4 reed on clarinet, sometimes
even a #5. The basset horn with the narrow bore is unusually resistant
and a reed of normal strength will give you a hernia.

Don't listing to Shouryunus Sarcasticii. He quotes me, but only the
dumb quotes. Next time I go through New Mexico, he'll be in deep
doo-doo.
