I had the same problem with an ancient Eb soprano by Barbier and was also
told the barrel could not be pinned. My teacher suggested filling the crack
with beeswax. I did this by forcing the wax into the crack from both the
inside and outside of the barrel, followed by melting the wax into the crack
with a heated metal rod and cleaning away the excess wax.

I've also tried to find a replacement barrel, but would apparently have to
have one custom made, since the barrels I've tried never seem to match both
the mouthpiece and upper joint bore diameters. I have ended up using the
"repaired" barrel for 4 or 5 years now without problems. I always position
the barrel with the crack at the top to minimize the possibility of
condensation seeping into the crack.

This might work for you until you get a new barrel (or instead of getting a
new barrel).
