Yona Ettlinger was born in Germany and was taken to Israel
at the ago of nine. He studied piano and clarinet there, then
moved to the USA and France, where for 2 years he was a
pupil of Cahuzac. For a while he was solo clarinet of the Israel
Philharmonic. While on the staff of Guildhall School of Music,
London, [conducting/chamber music/clarinet] he was known for his
seriousness and severity. (I was present at some master classes)

Very few of his recordings were issued. All now deleted [?]

His widow, now living in Paris, has several unissued
mastertapes. I have a radio tape [9 May 1967] of the
Reger Quintet by Ettlinger, which seems to suit his
character perfectly.

Boosey and Hawkes published his Suite for clarinet
and piano based on music by Rameau
