Dear Susan

Some good suggestions have been made, especially the Messiaen "Abimes des
oiseaux" is a good one. This ends with a few "beats" on the clarinet that
signify "Espère toujours", "Never gie up hope", as Messiaen once told me. I
studied this piece on my bass clarinet, and I think it is even more powerful
on a claribass, then it is on a soprano.

If this work is too difficult or too long, there is also a book with Jewish
music, in part music from the Schul (synagogue), and much of it can be used.
Though the book also gives piano accompinament, all pieces in it can be
played with clarinet solo.
