Presentation of classical music on the radio is alive and well here in =
Mississippi thanks to PRM. Program director William Fulton does a great =
job of giving a varied menu to the listeners. We have, I think, about =
twelve hours of classical music each Monday through Friday and a more =
varied repetoire on the weekends. In addition to this there are great =
programs of jazz, bluegrass, space music, etc.

I don't bring this up to brag, but simply to say that PRM is one of the =
really good things - one among many - that we have here in Mississippi. I =
hope we are fortunate enough for it to continue for a very long time.=20

Be careful about the "member-supported" classical station in Colorado
Springs. In Berkeley California and NYC are two non-commercial stations
which have been around for 40 years. Since the Telecommunications
De-Regulation Act was put in place in 1996 thousands of frequencies have
been bought out by huge conglomarates churning out generic pap and beaming
it across the country, because there are no longer any limits on how many
stations one company can own. In fact, the majority of radio stations in
this country are now owned by I think 2 corporations.

KPFA in Berkeley and WBAI in NYC are run by the Pacifica Foundation.
Somehow the Foundation's board of directors has been taken over by some
marericks who hope to sell the frequency for millions of dollars, ending =
the
existence of the stations. Welcome to the brave new world of de-regulation=

and globalization.
