Another pit-fall:

I had just gotten my clarinet back from the repair dude, who had
replaced a pad for one of the left-hand ring keys. Unfortunately, the
pivot screw was loose -- with every fingering, it worked itself out more
and more. =20

Fast forward to Act II of Guys & Dolls. Replacing the horn on the peg
for a fast switch to tenor, the key went "SPUNG!" and clattered across
the floor. The reed player next to me picked it up and, trying his best
to hold back guffaws, asked me "um, did you drop something?"

. . . pits are quite dark in performance, so finding the pivot screw on
the carpet was a chore. Fortunately, music stand lights detach and make
good flashlights.
